Helping the Family to

Work together

What is Family Therapy?
Family therapy is a form therapy that focuses on increasing co-operation and connection in a family.

Each family is a group of people who care about the quality of their relationships with each other. In family therapy, a group can consist of many different combinations of loved ones, such as parents/guardians and their children, siblings, grandparents, caregivers, etc.

Family Therapy can help with situations such as:
  • Relationship conflicts (parent-child
    or sibling conflict)
  • Communication difficulties
  • Adjusting to a new life change (like moving) or a medical condition
  • Changes and challenges that come with and adjustment (e.g. life including mixed and blended family members)
  • Death and grief in the family

Session Length

Varies based on needs, the number of participants, and availability. Family therapy can be a one-session or multiple-sessions process. A standard consultation between two family members can be effective with a 50-minute standard session. With more participants, it is generally more effective in achieving therapeutic outcomes to allow 120 -150 minutes for each family therapy session.
