Why am I a psychologist?
"I have always preferred thinking to action, so when experiencing a mid-life employment crisis, I made the decision to pursue a new career that had more to do with thinking, than action. I was never a good student (my school reports would say things like "Mark could do better if he would apply himself") so neither I nor anyone else thought I should go to university. I asked a friend what she did, and she said she was a counsellor. I asked her how I could be a counsellor, and she said, 'I wanted to be a psychologist'. So, I looked it up online, sent a letter, and 6 weeks later was sitting in a university lecture hall amongst a bunch of strangers thinking 'Well I guess this is my new life!'. Only years later did I remember that I had read books on science, philosophy, and psychology most of my adult life. I just never thought I could, or would, become a psychologist".
